Patches, who weighs in at more than 40 pounds, was adopted this week after being housed by Richmond Animal Care and Control by a happy woman shortly after the organization put out photos of the colossal cat on social media.
The 40.3-pound white and gray cat has been regulated to a special diet, is on an exercise plan, “and is very sweet,” according to animal control officials who helped carry the beast to his new mother's vehicle.
A photo of Patches placed on social media quickly went viral this week, garnering thousands of reactions and comments from users who immediately fell in love with the fluffy feline.
While the “gloriously gluttonous” cat can tilt the needle on the scale, Patches pales in comparison to the world’s most obese cat, Meow, who reached a total of 46.8 pounds before his death in the 1980s, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
